I managed to find a forged blank from master blacksmith / knifemaker Nishida-san, who specializes in White #1 steel. This knife was a delight to grind and sharpen - the steel almost seemed to wear away in metallic form (if that even makes sense?) rather than with a gummy, dragging feeling that I feel from untreated AEB-L or N690.
I gave this knife a K-tip, because I think K-tips are cool. I attempted a Myojin-style 3-angle spine polish, but it proved to be a little bit difficult so I went with the classic chamfered method after multiple failures. Overall cuts like a dream with the super thin tip!
