My first knife using HAP-40, but the steel was surprisingly easy to work with. Since I was making a petty, I generally made less mistakes and only had to clean up a few. It was kind of difficult getting the knife super thin without burning the edge post-heat treat, but I'm generally happy with the grind. I did make a slight mistake with the tip, and it had to be reshaped to a bird-beak sort of profile.
The rough blank came with an extremely short tang, and I think it could benefit from a dowel-constructed handle or maybe a pin of sorts. It didn't exhibit any problems during handling, so all should be fine.
Another regret with this knife is with fit and finish - if I could go back, I would round the spines more, and chamfer + polish the choil.
